Hello there, as Obi-Wan Kenobi would say. What can we say about art? I like to think that, with art, it must have a meaning behind it all. One must be able to feel something and interpret it. So, there are many different markets for art out there, so what exactly is the difference between them, and what sort of challenges do they have for discussing art in mainstream media? We can first look at what is called The Junk art market. This is art that is not seen as real art, but rather for decorating. This type of market is very competitive driven, so therefore it consists of a vast number of suppliers and Byers. Why I believe that this market does not get so much discussed in the media, is because there isn’t that much to say about it. This type of art is not for discussing, but rather for decorating, and therefore there isn’t that much to talk about.
When looking at what is called the avant-garde art market, the art is made for the not-for-profit sector. So, this market is to express something, instead of decorating something. This market attracts more media attention than the other markets. I want to say it’s because the art being made here is made for a reason. You’re supposed to discuss it. It is often here that one can meet controversial art, which will then get a lot of mention in the media. It is often here that art can split up people, where some believe one thing, while some others think of something else.
We also have a market, called Alternative Art market. This market is quite like the avant-garde market, but just on a smaller national level. In this market there are critics, gallerists and other leading figures in the art system that define what is to be included in this market. So, this marked gets a lot of promotion. What Separates the alternative market, from the junk art market, is primarily higher prices the fact that artist is tied to one dealer or a small number of dealers working under contracts with exclusivity clauses. I Think that, the problem with this marked is that, the people on the top, are deciding what art is going to get promotion or nor. So that the art that is lesser known, will get less attention.
Lastly, we have the Classical Contemporary art market, also known as the Branded Art market. This market consists of work that has been made by Historical Contemporary Artist by the 20thcentury where artist has achieved strong brands. What`s make this marked so special, is the Uniqueness of the product. I`ve believe that the problem with discussing this in the mainstream media, is that perhaps not very many people are aware of this marked. Or that this marked are for those that are particularly fond of art.
