About art

As we know there are several different types of markets in the art industry and all of these have their known differences.

But first I will tell you a little bit about how the art market works. The art markets isn’t all about the money, and economists tell us that exchange has a big role when it comes to obtain the art. The different art markets operates in different ways when it comes to exchange, and it all comes down to who participates and rules/logic of exchange.

Zolonis opinion

For example we are known to Zoloni’s opinion, which is called the industrial networks approach and this is his way to characterize art. Zoloni tells us that we have four different art markets, and you will pretty clearly see that there are concrete differences.

The big four

So, as I told you there are four different types of art markets, and these are “ Classical contemporary or Branded art market”, “Avant-garde art market” , “Alternative art market”, and “Junk art market”.

Now I will tell you a little bit about the differences.

Branded art market The classical contemporary or Branded art market is a market that has international standards, and this market are controlled by secondary market firms that are older and well-resourced.

Avant Garde art market

The next one is the Avant Garde art market. The difference from the Branded art market to the Avant Garde are how the market is controlled. Here the market is controlled by a small number of influential curators, dealers and critics.

Alternative art market

As you can see I will just tell you the most important about the markets, and the next one is the Alternative art market. In this market a lot of important people what is included in this

market, people such as critics, gallerists and other leading figures. It’s a little bit strange that market is controlled by superior persons, don’t you think?

Junk art market

The last art market is the Junk art market. The junk art market is not controlled by some firms or dealers like the other market are, this mark is often referred as “interior” art and are not necessary described as art. It’s most used for decoration.

A conclusion

What we learned from Zoloni and what I have told you ,there are four different markets, and most people don’t know much about these markets. The markets have different levels for each and this means if you are trying to talk about art and describe it, most people would not likely understand. Art can be so different from one another and each art has to be put in its own market and it can be very difficult to decide what art who should be where. This can make a lot disagreements because someone can say that one kind of art should belong to a higher level and then another person can mean something different. It’s hard to come to a conclusion on how special some art is.
