Grafill – a designers helping hand

Surviving as an independent designer in today’s design industry is not an easy career path. It’s a business market in constant change, and everyone is competing for the same clients and projects. The Norwegian design market is starting to develop into a thriving industry but is nowhere close to being a safe career path for someone going freelance.

Therefore Grafill, a Norwegian organisation for visual communication is working hard on helping and consulting people that is working in the design business or studying to become a designer or illustrator. Grafill have members all over the country, working with communication, illustration, cartoon creation, graphic design and animation, just to name a few.

There is no doubt that there are thousands of designers of all kinds around Norway trying to succeed as a full-time designer. Probably all just as hard working and passionate about what they do. The only problem is surviving in a market where the ones with, not only the best skills, but also the best connections, ends up succeeding. This is where Grafill comes in. To help hardworking designers with a career path of their dreams.

Grafill isn’t just a consultancy. They also provide their members dozens of seminars, workshops and debates where they can further develop their design skills, as well as helping them with the business side of the industry. The designers regularly face questions concerning jurisdiction or other corporational issues, and Grafill is there to help and guide them through problems they don’t learn how to face in art and design schools.

And there is a definite problem in the design and art industry in todays society. There are infinite numbers of amazing designers and artists around the country, but only a very small percentage ends up being able to make a living out of their designs and creations. It is a dynamic, growing industry, with ambitious, enthusiastic and passionate people who is constantly willing to learn and develop to adjust to the market that is in constant change.

They create micro-businesses that are flexible and can change rapidly to meet the demands of the market and different economic circumstances. But even the best design businesses need someone with deep knowledge and understanding in how the economic and corporate world works.

Grafill has taken it upon themselves to represent people from all the different design industries and help them develop and perfect their works and secure their future. To keep and retain the artistical aspect of the industry simultaneously to making sure they adapt to a market in constant change.
