Holzweiler -Simple, yet so brilliant.

Designers are defined as problem solvers which meets the needs of the consumer. Designers should be innovative and make solutions from critical thinking based on different perspectives and experiences.  There are different kinds of paradigms within design and some of them is that design should be useful, unobtrusive, long-lasting, sustainable and as little design as possible.  Less is more.

Designers do not manufacture things. They think, they may model or draw, and they specify. Some designers become involved in making their own prototypes”

Within the design industry we distinguish between industrial design, furniture design, fashion design, graphic design, service design, interaction design and architecture.  “Holzweiler”,which is within the fashion design, is a Norwegian fashion brand that was established in 2012.  Their compassion for culture, art and creative expression is seen in their designs. What makes them unique is how their design is so easy yet so aesthetic. There are many designers on the market and what I think makes them stand out in this competition is how they are marketing their brand. You often see their brands on high profile person – which makes a high-status impression, wearing their clothing.   The sweater picturing one single hanger on it – became extremely popular. Whenever I see a hanger I automatically associate it with the brand Holzweiler. So simple, yet so brilliant.  One of the paradigms in design as earlier mentioned is that design should be as little design as possible. Exactly what they have managed to do.

The roles within designers has developed enormously since the 1950s. the role has gone from being a creator to now also being driven by innovation.  It´s also important to be a sustainable entrepreneur.  Being sustainable is one of the biggest drives for Holzweiler focusing on the materials they use and how their clothing is being produced.  Referring to their website:

“Our goal is to become 100% plastic free by the end of 2019 and we are constantly working towards our goal of becoming a zero-waste company. With patience, and by taking necessary small steps with the guidance and help of IEH (Ethical Trading Initiative Norway) we hope to get there eventually.”
