Tesla is one of the world’s leading and most technological companies within the industrial design sector. They have a lot of different components to design in order for their product to reach its best potential. The company has also had some manufacturing conflicts where their factory design was not the most effective.
Tesla is a California based electric car manufacturer that were founded in 2003. Their main goal is to show the world that electric vehicles is as good as, and in some cases even better than those who consume fossil fuel. Today in 2019 they have proved their point, and most car manufacturers are starting to introduce their very own takes on electric cars. One can say that Tesla was the one to really start this trend and continues to improve and introduce new electric cars.
The reason why I’ve placed Tesla in the industrial design sector is mainly because they have to design different products with the intention of mass-production. Not only are they revolutionizing the industrial design in cars, but also in their factory which is located in Fremont, California, where they use a lot of robots and artificial intelligence (AI) to manufacture their products. Not only do they produce the cars in this factory, but also most of the car’s components are specifically designed for their car.
One of the main conflicts which really took a toll on the company was their factory design. The factory actually featured too much robots and AI, which made the manufacturing take more time compared to the working speed of humans. Tesla actually had to get rid of some of their robots and focus more on humans doing the work in order for them to produce the vehicles faster. This was during one of the company’s most stressful times where a lot of costumers were getting tired of the long waiting list. There are both pros and cons with robots, but they have not beaten us humans just yet.

The Tesla cars features really impressive technology which most other cars manufacturers have yet to introduce. Some of the features which really sets them apart from their competition is using your phone as car key, minimal but yet impressive technological interior design and Tesla supercharging station. The Tesla superchargers will charge your Tesla up to 80% of battery in only 30 minutes, which none other electric cars have yet to introduce. This is also one of the perks of being a Tesla owner, and the charging is also cheaper than regular fossil fuel.
When I think about industrial design, Tesla is top of mind when it comes to extraordinary design. Not only because of their functional, eco-friendly and vegan design, but also because of their entire eco-system from how well their factory, cars, chargers and even solar panels are connected. Their functionality when it comes to how you can control this advanced machine from your phone, it is truly astonishing.
