The difference between art and design is a fine line and I’ve noticed more and more companies are finding their place in between these sectors. Artistic influence in design can make every day items a lot more fun to look at and turn your living room into an art gallery. From architecture to graphic design and from furniture design to fashion, artistic value can really differentiate a design company from the rest. Which brings me to the artist I want to talk about in this blog: Piet Parra.
Pieter Janssen, alias Piet Parra is a Dutch artist that is mostly known for his paintings that feature highly saturated colors and surreal characters. Over the years these paintings have made him an internationally celebrated artist, and he has built up an impressive cv of 38 exhibitions of which 27 were solo exhibitions. But he is a true multi talent. The different areas he has been active in include: sculptures, album covers, graphic design, video clips, furniture and fashion. Whether or not a project is pure art or more design focused, his characteristic style is always noticeable. This style is also one of the strengths of the company Byparra, of which he is a co-founder and the creative director. Byparra is a design company that mostly focusses on fashion, but produce a lot of different items including skateboard decks, blankets, rugs, bed linen and even dog beds.
