The design organization I found interesting is called – hem (hem.com). Hem is a design brand creating furniture, home-accessories and lighting based in Stockholm. I define hem as online interior design branchy, as they do not have any offline stores. The brand has
many competitors in this niche. As they write about themselves: “Hem makes high-end design at accessible prices, without compromising on quality or environment.” – this is the best review on hem as a brand, and this is also their biggest uniqueness. Items they create are colorful, good- looking and functional. Hem is working with a lot of high-rated designers as Max Lamb, Luca Nichetto, Pauline Deltour, GamFratesi and Philippe Malouin, From Us With Love and others. That makes their collections always trendy and updated, what is very important in this industry.
I ́ll take the Kumo Sofa as a design example. At a design level they made a sofa which is super soft, “kumo” in Japanese means cloud, so the sofa is as soft as “a running shoe”. Hem also comments about sofas mounting: “Their solution was to create a simple framework that could be stacked in transit and that customers simply assemble and slot cushions into”. As a result, The Kumo Sofa wins Dezeen Awards 2018 as the best design furniture of the year.
