Comment on “Bridging the gap between art and design with Piet Parra.”

In this blogpost I am going to comment on the text Bridging the gap between art and design with Piet Parra.

First, I have to say that I really like the title of this text. I think it´s creative and catchy, and it very well covers what the text is about.

The author is starting by saying that the difference between art and design is a fine line, which is true, and that more and more companies are finding their place in between these two sectors. One example is the Dutch artist Piet Parra, “that is mostly known for his paintings that feature highly saturated colors and surreal characters.” Further the author is giving us some facts about the artist, like he has achieved international success and that he has had an impressively number of exhibitions.

The author is also mentioning that Piet Parra is a true multi talent. “The different areas he has been active in include; sculptures, album covers, graphic design, video clips, furniture and fashion.” I think this is something that could be linked to the syllabus. For example, what kind of art marked could we place Piet Parra in? Classic contemporary or branded art marked, which is on an international level? Or maybe Avant-garde?

Towards the end of the text the author is also talking about a design company named Byparra, where Piet Parra is co-founder and creative director. The author ends the text with a few questions to the reader, which I think is great considering that it´s a blogpost.

The text has a good structure, with short paragraphs which makes it easy to read. However, I think the author could have discussed the difference between art and design a bit more and also added more from the syllabus.

All in all, the text has a lot of potential. I also think it has a great flow to it. It just needs some adjustments.
