Response to blogpost: Mainstream

In the post published September 10th, student pic4sso has described the difficulties for discussing art in the open mainstream media. In the blogpost the student justify this problem with that is easier to discuss some types of art markets than others.

The student highlights the art of music as an example and writes about that this market has a larger discussion platform and compares this to the art of sculptures. In this generation with all the social media and the continuous development of media platforms, it´s easier to get exposed to certain art markets, and like pic4sso discussed – we are more aware of the music art market than the sculpture art market. Why is this so?

I agree with that the art of music has the ability to catch a larger audience and it´s also is a topic that most people can relate to and that I way easier to discuss about than sculptures or historical buildings. Another important reason to highlight is that the discussion in the art music doesn´t always require as much academic knowledge. The knowledge we need, to be a part of the art of music discussion has a lower threshold and it gives people the chance to participate without a feeling of hesitation of their own opinions.

As pic4sso mentions, we often see more articles and attention about the art of music than others. A good example for this these large magazines with their own music-column where the journalists reviews music albums, songs, videos etc. Most of them also has a movie-column, but where’s the architecture-column or sculpture-column? Nowhere to be seen.

To summarize, it´s no secret that the art of music has a larger market for media publicity. It´s just easier to have a discussion about music, something most people used to in their daily life than the art of sculptures.
