The blogpost “Design for everyone”, written by Sematikotemo is about IKEA and how the company is trying to be an inclusive place where people can buy furniture. This is a very interesting topic to discuss, in my opinion.
The student introduces early in the text some of the syllabus, by separating the design industry into different categories, and let us knows that we will read about the furniture industry. The introduction is clear in the sense that we know what we will be reading about; Does design need to be so expensive, and which part IKEA has in democratizing the industry.
The student’s text is good in length, nice and short paragraphs and has included a picture. But the image is missing it’s source, even tough the student might have taken the pictures it self, I would like to get that information.
Early in the blog post the student raises two questions. One of them is “What is the term design all about?” This is an interesting question, but I miss a suggestion to this question in the text. This last comment I wrote, might be a read thread throughout the blogpost; there is a lot of comments and describing of IKEA as a business and company, but there are no reflections or discussion.
In the 4th paragraph the author tells us that IKEA coorperates with external designers to be more innovative. This makes me curious, what does IKEA do to be more innovative, what is the cooperation on? As well when the student writes about IKEA’s strategy, what do you, as the author, think about this strategy? Is it good, or is it bad, you think? I would really want to read your thoughts on these different subjects.
A suggestion for improving the blog post for the author would be to focusing more on some few themes and really study for example “What is IKEA doing to be more innovative, how do they do it and does it work?”
I think the theme is really exciting and the author brings up some really good questions, I just really want to read more of the thoughts of the author and more discussion about the questions the author raises.
