Munch Museum and Hotel

In the bloggpost “Hotel and museum hybrid” by Yzf2012 the blogger writes in the first paragraph about how Bjørvika is a up and coming district in Norway and that Barcode is the next big thing. I would argue that Bjørvika is not not what you can call a “up and coming” place in Oslo. It has been affluent for quite some time now, more specifically for over half a decade. But in paragraph three you state that Barcode is “one of the most exclusive districts”. These are mutually exclusive statements.

In paragraph two the blogger talks about the marked that is possible to open for because of the tourism that can be exposed by entwining the Munch Museum and Hotel but I wonder about something. The fact that the new hotel features art from the famous painter Edvard Munch and the location means that the price will be more on the high end of the scale rather than the low. So how will the hotel be able to lure in younger museum goers that often are students or people with little to no extra money for more “lavish” hotels than a Clarion Express hotel?

You state that the hotel can be used as a small museum experience but does the hotel have any type of discount or form of arrangement with the new and old Munch museum so the tourist have easier access to the rest of the Munch paintings? And Is it the real artwork that is displayed in the hotel or is it fakes? Because when you use the real artwork in the hotel you make it harder for the tourists who lives at the other hotels to experience these pieces.

What do you think about that?

Yzf2012 last point of the post is that most Munch Museum goers are tourists and grown people in the age of 30-50 years of age but about 35% of Norway’s 19 to 35 year olds are students, that’s almost three hundred thousand people. How do you think that the hotel and museum can do to pursue the younger audience in Norway?

All in all he/she makes a good point and describes the use of location and the “hybrid” of a museum and a hotel, but I miss a solution on how to get a bigger audience to the museum.
