The bike artist.
The word “art” is to many of us confusing, because there is no actual line between what’s art or not. One man can place a piece of wood in the middle of a street and call it for an performance of art, while other will only see it as a unnecessary stunt to provoke, need for attention, or to make a statement of a feeling, just like art is meant to do. To me, art is a negative word. A word which don’t have a function or specific meaning, when someone says they saw art today, it might be anything from a picture, food, sounds, dance, everything that might fascinate a person. I don’t like the word art. When something fascinating or a good object becomes called for a piece of art, to me it just became a symbol of profit. In this prosses, it’s not the art itself that sets the art´s value, it’s the name behind it, the brand, the producer.
To me, art has to be quality, but not in the ways like selecting high-quality material for the prosses. I think an achievement that can be measured in a fascinating outcome, and something that stands out of the crowd because of its new-thinking, and even motivate people in a positive direction, is a high-quality art.
Therefore, I want to write about Stephen Lund, a bicycle rider from Canada.
Stephen Lund decided that he would make fascinating pictures with his bike, GPS track his rides on the roads, and literally paint his pictures in his very own way. He has several GPS pictures in his name, but not only are the pictures funny and joyful to watch, but they have a purpose. And art with a purpose, is my favorite type of art.
The goal Stephen Lund wanted to achieve with his pictures, is not a profit. He wants more people to get on their bikes again and have fun with it. The outcome of this would be better health, less pollution, and less cars in the streets and other benefits. To me this is what I like to call high-quality art. It doesn’t only make you think, but it might even change your life and health to the better.
Here’s one of the main reasons I don’t like the word art. Many people, still these days, think that the only place to find art is inside the walls of a museum. Something you have to pay for, search for or approved, and has to be signed by a name. People has to become more aware of the art that surrounds them, find out themselves what they consider art or not. To me, it was actually a visit to a museum that made me realize what was art, and what was not. And my conclusion was that it was not the objects inside the museum that was the art, it was everything outside of it.
